The following is a list of on-going groups at Sameem Associates:

Sameem Associates is dedicated to the out patient treatment of addictive disorders/chemical dependency.  The staff at Sameem Associates is a multidisciplinary group of licensed and certified clinicians specializing in addictions treatment consisting of psychiatrists, clinical nurse specialists, psychologists, social workers, family therapists and addiction counselors.

COURT OFFENDERS GROUPS

These ongoing groups are for males and females 17 years old and older who are involved with the courts (on probation or parole) because of a substance abuse related crime. The group is psycho-educational -- addressing substance abuse related activity and how this has impacted the individual's life. Urine toxic screening is available. Monthly attendance reports may be submitted to the referral source. Group eligibility means the individual must attend 2 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings weekly in addition to group attendance.

EARLY RECOVERY GROUP FOR MEN

This long-term psychotherapy group is for males only, ages 30 and older. Emphasis is on the 12-step program philosophy. Eligibility means individuals must be abstinent from substance use (including alcohol) for a minimum of 2 weeks and must be attending either Alcoholics Anonymous and/or Narcotics Anonymous weekly.

PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS

These long-term support groups are for parents of individuals with chemical dependency problems. The group provides support, education and strategies on how to cope with the addicted family member. Attendance at Al-Anon is strongly encouraged.

EARLY RECOVERY GROUP FOR WOMEN

This long-term psychotherapy group is for women only. Ages are 22 and older. It is an issue-oriented group for women in sobriety dealing with relationship, trust, and resentment issues. Early recovery means double digit recovery time, i.e., 24 hours. The group includes members with both short-term and long-term abstinence (from 1 day to 12 years or more). Membership in a 12-step program is recommended. Eligibility means individuals must be abstinent from mind-altering chemicals.

YOUNG ADULT SOBRIETY GROUP

This ongoing group is for Young Adults ages 19-29. Eligibility means individuals must be abstinent from mind-altering chemicals and motivated to work on sobriety. Most individuals in this group are active members of Alcoholics Anonymous and/or Narcotics Anonymous.

ADOLESCENT (TEENAGE) INTERVENTION GROUPS

These groups are for teenagers 13-19 who are referred because family, school, court or community agencies have a concern about their drug and alcohol use and/or the teen has a concern about his/her drug/alcohol use. Individuals explore whether or not their use is a problem or a dependency. Monthly progress reports may be sent to referral source. Periodic review sessions with parents, regarding their teen's progress, are included.

MEDICATION GROUP

This group is for individuals in treatment at Sameem Associates and who have an additional diagnosis that requires psychiatric medication. This group will help individuals process what it is like to be on medication as well as coping with their addictive disease -- the recovery process. A meeting with our psychiatrist to review and reassess medication protocol will take place during the group process.

RECOVERY GROUP FOR ADULT CHILDREN OF ALCOHOLICS/ HIGH STRESS FAMILIES

This ongoing therapy group is for women and men ages 25 and older who find they have been affected by growing up in high stress families, including chemical addiction, mental illness, suicide, physical/or sexual abuse, divorce or chronic illness. Through group process our support members address issues of trust, intimacy, relationship and self-esteem.

TRAUMA SURVIVOR’S SUPPORT GROUP

This long term support group is for women ages 22 and older who have completed a time limited survivor's group and would like to address survivor's issues, such as trust, intimacy, memory, relationships, sexuality and body image in more depth. Group requires a minimum commitment of one year.

MEDITATION & RELAXATION GROUP

This time limited group meets in 5 sessions, 1 1/2 hours each, for males and females struggling with stress reduction as a strategy to reduce obsessive compulsive behaviors, e.g., drug/alcohol abuse -- addiction, relapse, and other negative behaviors. The group will teach a variety of meditation and relaxation techniques to help facilitate an individuals' recovery. The group is designed as a supplement to individuals' existing treatment and/or therapy.

DETOX/STABILIZATION GROUP

This group is for individuals between the ages of 20 and 60 who have either just finished an inpatient detoxification treatment; are in the process of outpatient detoxification either at Sameem Associates or at another facility; or have recently finished an outpatient detoxification treatment. The focus of the group is to help individuals maintain abstinence, establish connections with self-help programs and to be evaluated for other types of rehabilitation treatment and/or medication assessment. Individuals must make an initial commitment to attend the group for 12 weeks. This group compliments other programs and/or groups offered at Sameem Associates.

ADOLESCENT EARLY RECOVERY GROUP

This on-going group is for both males and females between the ages of 14 and 22 who are continuing to struggle with issues surrounding their substance use, abuse and dependency.  A motivation to change and achieve abstinence is recommended.  Teens entering the group need to make a minimum commitment of 3 months.  Participation in 12-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous is strongly encouraged.  A family assessment is the first step before potential members begin their group experience
