FYI – FOR YOUR INFORMATION
For the past 5 years, Sameem Associates has been offering
an ambulatory detoxification
(detox) and maintenance program otherwise known as the Suboxone Program. This
highly successful detox and intensive outpatient
program offers services to patients with opiate dependence
(heroin and other pain medicines). Patients
are obligated to commit to an initial period of 3
months, coming in for individual, group and family
therapy as well as drug testing and medication (Suboxone
and other psychiatric medicines) management. In
the first phase of treatment, patients generally
come in 3-4 times per week for counseling in addition
to attending 12-step (Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics
Anonymous) meetings. Adults are able to maintain
full time employment while in the program and students
have been able to attend classes or have taken a
medical leave from school. Following the initial
3 month phase of treatment, patients who want to
continue therapy may do so, and if they want to continue
with their medicine in a maintenance phase they may
do so with the additional support of therapy at least
once weekly. This program has been very successful
with patients both young and old. This program
is part of several research studies in the Boston
area that assess the effectiveness of Suboxone
medication.
