Substance Abuse Treatment Programs for Competitive Athletes

Sameem Associates, Inc., Professional Athletes Treatment Program works with professional athletes who may be suffering from mental health, substance abuse, or adjustment and "focus" issues that are affecting their ability to perform. Sameem Associates, Inc. offers evaluation, individual, group, and family treatment as well as dual-diagnosis and medication management when necessary. Individually tailored treatment plans are formulated for each athlete. In addition, nutritional counseling, physical fitness, and exercise programs, as well as post career vocational counseling, are part of the program.

Sameem Associates, Inc. currently works closely with organizations (e.g., National Football League - Program for Substances of Abuse) to help players fulfill their obligations to their clubs and league officials.

Protection of athletes’ privacy and confidentiality is always maintained and never compromised at the level of teammates, other professional clubs, or the media. Questions from the media or other sources are always referred back to the league.

Who Is Eligible?

What Are The Program's Requirements?

What Medications Will Be Used To Help With Withdrawal Symptoms?

The psychiatrist (physician) will meet with the patient, initially, to assess what is medically necessary to treat the withdrawal symptoms. Although there are a number of medications that are available depending on the symptoms presented, in many cases for opiate dependent individuals, a medicine called Suboxone may be used.

Suboxone is a prescription medicine used to treat individuals who are opioid dependent.

Suboxone is a tablet that contains 2 medicines:

1. The first medicine is called buprenorphine. This medicine is like a painkiller, but it will not get you “high.” Withdrawal or stopping buprenorphine is an easy process.

2. The second medicine contains naloxone. This medicine helps block the effects of drugs like heroin, morphine and methadone.

How Is The Program Paid For?

Most insurance programs will pay in part for the program and an out-of-pocket fee may also be required.
